# Wallet

> Fund pay-as-you-go servers from a prepaid wallet in naira or US dollars, billed by the hour.

Servers you [buy from Symplax](https://docs.symplax.com/servers/buy-a-server.md) are paid for from your wallet. You top it
up in advance, and each running server takes its hourly rate from the balance. There is no
contract and no monthly bill.

The wallet only pays for servers. Your management plan (Free, Pro or Team) is billed separately.
See [Plans](https://docs.symplax.com/billing/plans.md).

## Currency

Your wallet holds one currency: naira (NGN) or US dollars (USD). It is set the first time you top
up or buy a server, from the currency your account uses, and it stays fixed after that.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Every later top-up has to be in the same currency. Symplax does not convert between naira and
> dollars inside a wallet.

## Top up

**1. Open the wallet**

Click the wallet balance at the top of the dashboard. The **Top up your wallet** dialog opens.

**2. Choose an amount**

Pick a suggested amount or type your own. When a server is running, the suggestions cover
about 7, 14 and 30 days at your current usage, and the dialog shows how long the amount you
entered will last.

**3. Pay**

Click **Top up** and finish the payment on the hosted checkout, processed by Bachs. You are
sent back to the dashboard and your balance updates.

The dialog shows the smallest and largest amount you can top up at once. You get a receipt by
email for every top-up.

## Hourly billing

* Each server has an hourly rate in your wallet's currency, set when you buy it.
* You need at least 24 hours of that rate in your wallet to start a new server.
* Billing starts once the server is ready. The minutes spent setting it up are not charged.
* After that, each full hour the server runs is taken from your balance.
* A paused server is not charged.

## Low balance

When your balance drops to **₦500** or **\$1**, Symplax sends you an email and a dashboard
notification with roughly how many hours you have left. The wallet balance in the dashboard
also turns amber. You get this warning once, and it resets when you top up.

## When the balance reaches zero

**1. Your servers pause**

When the balance reaches zero, every pay-as-you-go server on your account is powered off and
marked paused, newest first. You get an email and a notification. Apps on a paused server are
offline.

**2. Top up to resume**

A top-up turns paused servers back on automatically. You do not need to do anything else.
The time spent paused is not billed.

**3. Deprovisioned after 24 hours**

A server that stays paused for 24 hours is permanently deprovisioned, and you get a dashboard
notification.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Deprovisioning deletes the server and everything on it, including apps and databases. It
> cannot be undone. Top up within 24 hours of a pause to keep your server.

## Transactions and receipts

The **Recent activity** list in the **Top up your wallet** dialog shows your wallet ledger:

* **Top up**: money you added.
* **Compute**: an hourly charge, labelled with the server's name.
* **Refund** and **Adjustment**: credits or corrections made by Symplax.

Wallet top-ups also appear in your payment history in **Settings**, on the **Billing** tab, next
to your plan payments.
